Howdy,

Bruce Tate here - You all are absolutely right about me and my books and my technology flip-flopping. Before any of you wastes another dime on my books or a minute reading my opinions about how to 'do technology' read my own review of "Spring: A Developer's Notebook" (which I published and then pulled this summer):

"
I agree with most of you..., July 26, 2005
I'm the author of this book, and I'm writing myself a one star review because you're all right, and you deserve to know what I'm doing about it. We pushed out a book before it was ready, and let way too many errors go undiscovered. My co-author, Justin Gehtland's blog chronicles the experience well. Let me tell you what we're doing so it doesn't happen again.

* We've just worked on a reprinting of this book with the great folks at O'Reilly.

* We've invested more time in the reprinting than we invested in pushing the book out to production the first time.

* O'Reilly has paid for independent reviewers to make sure that we have the code and content rock solid.

* O'Reilly has eaten the remaining books in the original printing, and will use only the reprint.

* I've refrained from promoting the book in public, until the reprinting was under way. I made no announcement in the usual places, even my blog.

My appologies to all readers, and O'Reilly customers. I let you down. There's no other way to put it. This book's quality sucked. We were overconfident after the Jolt award, and pushed it out before it was ready. If you do happen to order it, make sure that you get the reprint.
"

Let this be fair warning that I spew and print utter nonsense. Furthermore, if you waste any time or money on my rantings printed or spoken, you have only yourselves to blame. Now pardon me while I get back to my RoR tinkering and writing.

Bruce Tate - founder of J2Life.com

PS: Did I mention that he most popular J2Life engagement is the design review, because they work? A design review is an intense, three to seven day engagement that's fully interactive. J2Life will interview developers, review code, and tell you what's working. Even if you don't have code written yet, J2Life can help you pick the best possible technology, or mix of technologies for your project.

2BruceTate:

bruce, I really don't understand, why did you write such a critical review about your own book. Also, I noticed, that on your web site, you have are mentioning (right on the intro page!), that you have 2 failed start-up companies.

Look, everybody makes mistakes. Everybody fails. But propagate them with such an effort -- really, It's unusual, pointless, and you are only unnecessary destroying your image. Don't complain, and don't reflect yourself in such a negative way.

hehehe, give bitching review on my own book makes me more famous and thus will bring more fame and $$$ to me later! Look, Bill Clinton's rating shot up after the B.J. news got out. Michael Jackson becomes popular again after he molestered thoses boys.....etc. etc... This is the 21th centry! I am just more creative than you! Why the hell you think I can sell shit such as 'design review' to stupid ass like you?

Holy Cow !

Did you all understand this service offered by Bruce 'the Tater' Tate at the j2life site ?

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Expert Witness Services
J2Life can serve as an expert witness when you need to hold another consulting practice accountable. J2Life can provide both consulting and testifying witnesses. Make sure that you consult your lawyer before consulting J2Life, as often it's better to demonstrate that there's no prior relationship between the expert and plaintiff or defendant.
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

It's unclear whether j2life is offering people who are expert at being witnesses or people who are experts at some other thing who can offer their services as witnesses (part-time, presumably, when they are not exercising their expert skills elsewhere for high rates).

Either alternative frightens me, yet opens up intriguing possibilities.

For instance, let's say I am (hypothetically speaking, of course) a black ex-sports star accused of murdering my wife - let's use the name 'O. J.' as a completely fictional psuedonym - and my lawyer - let's use the name 'Johnny' as, again, a completely fictional name for convenience - can I call up j2life and get me a witness or two who will have seen me at the golf course on the day or days in question ? Or if I am the governor of a Southern state involved in questions of interfering with minority voting when my brother was running for President, can j2life provide me with some witnesses who can testify that I know nothing about voting and in fact, have never even seen a poll booth, even if I knew what it was ? (Well, I guess the last example is little far-fetched, but bear with me.)

Anyway , you slandering bastards on this bile had better watch out ! Because I have, or can obtain at a reasonable hourly fee, EXPERT witnesses who can prove you have committed a variety of unpleasant crimes. For instance, do the words 'kitten' and 'McNuggets' and mean anything you ? I have witnesses who say they do.

Of course, the fact that the Tater is the only BIO listed on the site makes me suspect that the supply of expert witnesses is somewhat limited ... perhaps to one. Unless the other witnesses remain anonymous under the Witness Protection Act. Don't get me started.

My point, of course, is this : Lotus Notes sucks so badly that it has no justification for its existence. It stands, along with most UNIXs, as an example of the trimupmh of the hostile user interface (HUI). And I have, or can obtain, witnesses to prove it.

Will Ruby kill Java ? Will IT be 100% outsourced to Elbonia ? Are we going to be left with the burger-flipping jobs ?

Is .NET faster than J2EE ? Will Ruby kill .NET ? Do the Elbonians even know Ruby ? Do they have a proper subscription to JDJ and read my columns ?

I think Bush Junior is the greatest President we ever had. I think he should just attack Elbonia and give us back our Java jobs and our JDJ jobs.

I like cats. Do people who don't like cats even deserve to live ? Do Elbonians like cats ? I don't think so.

These Ruby-ignorant, cat-hating Elbonians must die! Thank you Mister President!
